The students accused the university of increasing the school fees by Sh3,000 without "official communication". The comrades also demanded the senate to review supplementary exams and called for the immediate resignation of the VC, Josphat Mwatela for incapacitation in service delivery.

According to the University senate,
through a notice issued today, it has become impossible to continue normal
university activities. However, Kwale and Lamu campuses will not be affected by
the closure, added the statement that was signed by Vice-Chancellor Josphat
Mwatelah.
The students
were ordered to vacate the halls of residence and the university’s premises within
30 minutes.
